Jack Daniels' The Art and Science of Running (2007)

Jack Daniels was named cross country coach of the century after leading his team to eight national championships. He currently coaches some of the top distance runners in the world. This instructional DVD was recorded from a 2006 clinic he hosted. Throughout the clinic, Coach Daniels discusses some of the science behind distance running. He covers a range of topics including lactate threshold, VO2 max, blood chemistry, and other physiological issues that can impact training and performance. He not only tells runners how to train, but also the reasoning behind each workout.


Marathon Challenge (2008)
Documentary DVD

Marathon Challenge is a Nova documentary that follows 13 average men and women in their quest to complete the 2007 Boston Marathon. The documentary shadows each runner as they undergo a 40-week, high intensity training program. Throughout the film you get to see first hand some of the physical, mental, and emotional difficulties each runner faces during their training. The film makers have also included a few nice computer effects that show how the body reacts to long distance running. This documentary is both informative and motivational.
