Hal Higdon's Marathon Training Guide

Hal Higdon is one of the foremost authorities on marathon training. His marathon training programs are used by thousands of runners around the country. This website includes 18-week training programs for five different levels from novice to advanced. The site also has a post marathon guide designed to help runners recover after the race. A Virtual Training link will take you to a message board on which you can ask questions and discuss your training.


Run Injury Free with Jeff Galloway

Jeff Galloway is a writer for Runner's World Magazine and has been creating marathon training plans for more than 30 years. His goal of running injury-free marathons sets the precedent for this website. There are links to training schedules as well as information on nutrition, injury prevention, and shoe selection. Galloway also offers, for a fee, group training runs in cities across the country. There is a link to a map of cities in which these groups run.


State of the Art Marathon Training

This site was created by runner and coach Art Liberman. Liberman writes for Runner's World Magazine, is the marathon expert for the Global Health and Fitness website, and is the author of The Everything Running Book. The State of the Art Marathon Training website covers wide range of marathon training topics including stretching, injury prevention, nutrition, and choosing the right shoes. Liberman has also included an 18-week marathon training schedule. One of the great features is the "Race Countdown Marathon Strategy" article that discusses race-day tips and issues to consider before the start, while running, and immediately following the race.


Marathon Rookie

Marathon Rookie is an awesome site created for first time marathoners, but can also be used by experienced runners who are looking to improve their training. The key features include a race calendar, a marathon training schedule, and information on nutrition, hydration, heart rate training, stretching, injury prevention, and running gear. There are also tips for race day, a list of common mistakes first time runners make, and a few keys to staying motivated.


Cool Running

Cool Running is one of the most well known websites in the running community. The content is not limited to marathon running. There are plenty of tips for all runners including their incredibly popular "Couch to 5k" program which helps convert couch potatoes into runners, and eventually marathoners. There are interactive resources to play with including a free virtual training log and a pace calculator. The community message board on Cool Running is very active and is a fantastic place to ask all of your running and training questions. The experienced runners on the board are very helpful. Cool Running is also a great place to find upcoming races in your city as well as results from past races.


Marathon Training

The Marathon Training site contains links to related articles from myjj.com's message boards. The articles cover topics covering marathoning for beginners and veterans, injuries, health & nutrition, and equipment. There are hundreds of articles and postings to peruse. The myjj message board allows users to ask their own questions and create posts as well.

Run the Planet is a global site with great training tips, suggestions for proper equipment, links to running resources, and an active community. One of the top features of the site is their race calendar. They have an extensive, searchable list of marathons and other races around the world. Run the Planet has developed a partnership with run.com's interactive running routes and maps features. With this you can find running routes in any part of the world as well as create and track your own running routes.


Runner's Hangout

Runner's Hangout is a community discussion board. There are forums for running & training, apparel & gear, health & nutrition, and running events. Registration is free and anyone can join. You can ask questions about your training and pick up tips from experienced runners.
